What is Rhodium?
Rhodium Plating provides protection for our sterling silver jewelry and white gold jewelry, coating it to help prevent tarnish and scratches. A rhodium finish, however, is not impervious to the effects of everyday wear and abrasion. To limit wear one should avoid household cleaning, gardening, and other activities that can quickly destroy the rhodium plating, thus exposing the slightly yellow tint of the white gold underneath. Even talc, which is found in many cosmetics, is known to have an abrasive effect on jewelry items.
If wear does occur, most jewelry can be re-plated with rhodium at a local jeweler for a minimal cost. The plating on pendants and earrings lasts longer than on other cubic zirconia rings, as they are not exposed to friction. Here are some tips for keeping your rhodium plated jewelry looking its best.
- Do not use any abrasive cloths for polishing.
- Do not use chemical jewelry cleaners.
- Clean only with mild soap and water.
Enjoy the beauty of rhodium plated jewelry, an affordable way to capture the platinum appeal.
What is E-coating?
E-coating, also known as electro-coating or electro deposition, is a method that uses electrical current to coat a metal surface with an organic lacquer, covering every nook and cranny on the jewelry with an even and consistent protective coat. This coat protects the sterling silver used to create the jewelry. E-coated jewelry isn't as shiny as rhodium plated pieces and has a warmer tone in color, but it lets the natural beauty of the sterling silver come through without fear of damage.
If you'd like to measure your ring size for yourself, here are 5 easy steps.
- Find a piece of string or strip of paper no wider than 3/4".
- Wrap it around the base of the appropriate finger.
- Use a pen to mark the point on the string/paper where it overlaps, forming a complete circle.
- With a ruler, measure the length from the starting end of the string/paper to the pen mark.
- Use this measurement and the provided chart below to determine your ring size.

Do you carry half sizes?
We apologize, but we don't carry half-sizes on our site at this time. We recommend purchasing a ring one size up from from the desired half-size. For instance, if you are a 6.5 we would recommend a size 7. All rings fit differently depending on the width of the band and style of the ring, so you just may find that you can wear a range of sizes.
Why do you offer nickel-free jewelry?
Many of the alloys used in jewelry contain nickel. Approximately 15% of the U.S. population, however, experiences allergic reactions to nickel. Symptoms can range from itching and redness to blisters or rashes at the point of contact. To be technical for a moment, it's not the nickel itself that people are allergic to but the metallic salts that are created when the metal comes into contact with perspiration.
Traditional sterling silver contains small amounts of nickel, which some may react to. Our nickel free jewelry allows you to wear incredible jewelry without having to suffer for it.

What are the differences between, gold, diamond, and CZ carats?
Gold karats refer to the percentage of pure gold in an item, specifically:
24k gold = pure gold
18k gold = 75% gold, usually alloyed with a base metal such as copper or nickel
14k gold = 58.5% gold, usually alloyed with a base metal such as copper or nickel
Many people seem to refer to gold karats as being spelled with a 'K', and diamond/CZ carats as being spelled with a 'C'. Diamond carats are a measurement of the weight of the stone, where:
1 carat = 1/5 of a gram.
Cubic zirconia don't weigh the same as diamonds, but people usually consider carat as an indication of size, not weight. So, if we carry a product with a CZ that is 2 carats, it basically means that the stone is the same size (length, width, height) as a diamond of that carat weight.
What exactly are CZ Stones?
Simulated Diamonds: the Next Best Thing to Ice
Yes, diamonds are a natural wonder to the Earth but cost has led more and more people to consider and purchase imposter diamonds. Usually made from cubic zirconia, simulated diamonds capture the beauty of natural stones. Because of their affordability, the sky is the limit when it comes to design. Colored diamonds are rare but with cubic zirconia, canary, pink and citrine simulated diamonds are readily available and affordable like their clear counterparts. Simulated diamonds can be cut into any shape a diamond can such as princess, asscher and emerald cut. Traditionally, jewelry shoppers have purchased smaller carat size rings like 1 and 2 carat, but larger carat stones have become a fashion trend and are made possible with simulated diamonds. Cocktail rings, stud earrings and necklaces dripping with ice can be big and bold with simulated diamonds.
Although cubic zirconia jewelry cost significantly less than diamond jewelry, even diamond experts can be fooled by their presence. So much so that even those high net worth individuals that can afford the real thing, often times go for the fake jewelry.
Many TV personalities such as Samantha Jones of Sex and the City says, "who cares?" to her friend Miranda, adding that "all that matters is what it looks like." The trend has some men asking why spend thousands on the real thing for their fiance's engagement ring. The money spent on a real diamond engagement ring could mean a down payment on a house or a new car.

Why should I buy imposter jewelry?
Sometimes it's ok to "fake it". Celebrities do it all the time.
And no, we're not talking boobs or botox here.
It's celebrity imitation jewelry that's making all the girls go faux. Imposter jewelry is affordable because instead of using expensive diamonds, companies like Emitations.com are offering amazing top designer-inspired jewelry using simulated diamonds or high quality cubic zirconia with sterling silver. It can be piled on for the trendy layered look seen in fashion magazines like Vogue . imitation jewelry can also be mixed with real gold and diamonds to keep them guessing which baubles are the real bling.
Imposter jewelry has become more popular and acceptable in recent years with the trend of high-carat chandelier earrings, oversized cocktail rings and 22 carat stones in bright, candy colors. Hollywood A-listers like Drew Barrymore, Gwen Stefani and even Ms. Paris Hilton are known to have worn cubic zirconia in place of real diamonds. Famous or not, celebrity imitation jewelry is ideal for fashion savvy women who crave star style.
We asked the president of Emitations.com, Au-Co Mai:
Why do you go faux?
I travel often and I like not having to worry about whether the jewelry pieces I bring are insured in case of loss or theft. With imitation jewelry I can have fun and focus on personalizing my style by bringing several different jewelry looks to go with my outfits and not worry about potential liabilities. My three favorite travel pieces are the classic CZ stud earrings in 4 TCW, the Deimos skull necklace, and a fun and colorful cocktail ring for when I go out.
How common is it for people to buy imitation jewelry just for travel purposes?
We have a lot of customers who buy imitation jewelry specifically for vacationing and traveling. We had one customer who lost over $50k worth of diamond jewelry stolen on a vacation. The jewelry was not insured and they didn't have the money to replace it. The husband and wife were devastated because even if there was insurance coverage for replacement, the jewelry pieces had irreplaceable sentimental value because it had been given to her over the years from family and friends.
What exactly is imposter jewelry?
Imposter jewelry and imitation jewelry is typically high quality fashion jewelry using precious metals such as sterling silver, 14k gold and platinum. The type of stones that Emitations uses are of the highest quality cubic zirconia.
Who wears it?
Because of the wide range of styles and it's affordable price points, imitation jewelry is purchased by all age and income demographics. The age range is typically between women in their 20s and 50s. Fashion cultured women love re-inventing looks with the use of jewelry. Famous political figures like Madeline Albright wear costume brooches as a political statement, and famous millionaires wear CZ pear-drop earrings even though they can afford the real thing.
What is a Promise Ring?
A promise ring symbolizes a commitment that one person makes to another. Traditionally, it is a precursor to an engagement between two people in a relationship who are not ready to marry but are serious about one another.
However, promise rings can stand for all types of promises such as:
- We are best friends
- I will always be there for you
- I will be faithful to you
- I promise to abstain from a vice or bad habit
- I will return to you
Promise rings or commitment rings can be given to a man or a woman. Single women can also wear promise rings to symbolize a promise to themselves. Women's promise rings are generally characterized by a single stone such as a faux diamond that is usually smaller and more simple than an engagement ring diamond. Men's promise rings are typically simple bands made of sterling silver, stainless steel or gold.
A promise ring can be worn on either the right or left hand ring finger but is more commonly worn on the right to avoid confusion of being an engagement ring or wedding band.
Emitations offers promise rings made of sterling silver that resembles platinum and cubic zirconia in place of diamonds. Trista's Princess Cut Promise Ring is available in pink, clear or canary and the most popular among our selection. We also feature a men's section of rings that can be used as promise rings.
