Musical Divas Make the Grammys | | Mary J. Blige leads the pack with eight nominations for her album, The Breakthrough, including Best R&B Album, Song and Record and Song of the Year. This is Blige’s seventh and perhaps biggest album of her 15-year musical career.
“That’s a beautiful thing, that I’m still going,” Blige, 36, told The Associated Press upon receiving the nods. “The Breakthrough is about triumph, about not being a victim, but being a victor. It’s about loving yourself.”
Another publicly proclaimed diva, Mariah Carey, was nominated for Best R&B Song for her hit, “Don’t Forget About Us.” Like Blige this time around, Carey was nominated for eight awards last year and brought home three for her album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
Once known for her “drrrty” image, Christina Aguilera now defines the rebirth of “Old Hollywood Glamour” with platinum locks, red lips, sparkling gowns, and of course, diamonds . Along with her new image come two Grammy nominations: Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Ain’t No Other Man” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Back to Basics.
Aguilera’s fellow former Mouseketeer, Justin Timberlake, will take the stage with the lucky winner of “My Grammy Nomination” - a contest that invited amateur female vocalists to compete for the chance to sing with the sexy pop star. Timberlake is up for a gramophone trophy for Album of the Year.
Other nominees for this year’s Grammy Awards include the Dixie Chicks, James Blunt, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Corrine Bailey Rae and Gnarls Barkley.
The 2007 Grammy Awards will air live from the L.A. Convention Center on CBS this Sunday, February 11 at 7/8 Central. Check out Emitations’ Tuesday Newsletter to see how to get the winning look!
