Ricki's Success

Shedding weight is no easy feat - just ask Ricki Lake. The former talk show host and star of The Business of Being Born (a documentary film about home birth and midwifery) now weighs 123 pounds, a staggering difference from 250 at her biggest in 1989.

The last 25 pounds that Ricki Lake recently lost landed her the cover of the May 21 Us Weekly. The actress said she wanted to look good for the premiere of her movie at the Tribeca Film Festival.

"I was so excited about people seeing the film, but I also wanted to feel great in my skin when I walked down the red carpet on April 29. And I did," Rick Lake said to Us Weekly.

While other formerly overweight stars such as Carney Wilson, Sharon Osbourne and Star Jones opted for gastric bypass surgery, Ricki Lake battled her weight loss the natural way: by exercising and eating healthy.

She says the hardest part of her 1,200 calories a day diet was cutting down on bread. "Now I'll eat one piece instead of the whole basket."

Lake is on a food delivery program that sends her pre-made healthy meals like honey balsamic glazed salmon with lemon asparagus and lentil and goat cheese salad.

Newly single Ricki Lake is now on the market and ready for summer in a cute red bathing suit. She and her former boyfriend, Apollo Yiamouyiannis, recently split after three years together.
